I am an archaeologist with a research focus in ancient magic & ritual practice. My work comprises the ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman record, both, the archaeological and the textual sources.

I received my M.A. in the archaeology of the roman provinces, pre- and early history, egyptology (minor) and classical archaeology (minor) at the University of Mainz and my PhD at the University of Erfurt.

The topic of my PhD was the making and use of ancient magical inscribed artefacts (Schriftverwendung in antiker Ritualpraxis). The ancient sources for my study were the Egyptian and Greek ritual manuals from the 1st century BCE to the 7th century CE and I analysed the making and use of 268 magical artefacts.

I worked as a postdoc for six years at the department of Egyptology at the University of Heidelberg and at the department of Ancient History at the University of Erfurt. From 2017-2019 I received a three year grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) for my research about ancient magical signs, the project was located at Erfurt and Heidelberg (Germany).

Early in 2022 I revived an old Twitter acount and began to share my research online and that’s when it all started 🙂 You can find my Open Science Content about the Archaeology of Ancient Magic & Ritual Practice and my online community here:
