This is an overview of the five major groups of inscribed ancient magical artefacts from the archaeological record dating between the 2nd century B.C. and the 7th century A.D. The numbers are based on my research and database but it needs to be kept in mind that these can only be estimations since it can be difficult – and in many cases impossible – to classify an inscription clearly as magical in contrast to, for example, as a prayer.
