The initial invocation in the “Eighth Book of Moses” (PGM XIII)

A new transaltion of the beginning of the initial invocation in the “Eighth Book of Moses”

“I call upon you, who is greater than all,
who created all things,
you, the self-created,
the All-seer and Unseen.

You gave the sun its glory and all its power,
the moon to wax and wane and to keep certain
orbits, and you took nothing away from the former
darkness, but gave them equal measure.

For when you appeared, the universe became
and the light appeared.

All things are subject to thee,
thy true form none of the gods can see.

You, who can change into all,
are the invisible Aion of the Aion.”
